With Into The Blue, we can all be proud of our beginnings as a band. When I was a child, my father, Jock Maitland, took me to Biggin Hill for a picnic. Biggin Hill’s civilian airfield first opened its doors in 1958, and at the time, there were numerous semi-derelict artefacts of the town’s military past to be seen. Exploring the historic pill boxes and blast pens was a lovely way to spend a few hours. One of the first events I worked on with him was the Biggin Hill Air Fair, which was one of our first collaborations.
I came to the conclusion that many of the spectators at the displays wanted to ‘have a try’ themselves after consulting with established aviation friends. Since its inception more than two decades ago, the company has grown beyond all recognition, thanks in large part to the fact that it has remained a family-owned business that is focused on its employees, has built great connections with its suppliers, and has always treated its customers fairly.
