Two surf-loving brothers founded SALTROCK in 1988. The two surf-seeking brothers finally made it to London. They got on the next train to the coast and told the ticket agent, “Take them to the nearest place there’s surf.
The two artists, Angus and Ross, were enjoying their time in Cornwall immensely but found themselves quickly running out of money. They constructed a printing screen out of scraps they begged, borrowed, and salvaged and a blackout system out of tape, nails, and a Salvation Army rug, and then they set up shop in the back of an Austin Allegro and began printing and selling t-shirts with original surf-inspired designs. The new company is called Saltrock, after the founders’ favourite surf spot in their native South Africa.
The ideas took flight. The brothers’ style was so unique and striking that it quickly attracted a devoted following among surfers in the south west, and soon there was so much demand that production had to be halted.
They’ve stayed fiercely true to their roots by continuing to make surf-inspired designs in Devon, with a spirit of independence at the core of everything they make.
