At Emma Bridgewater, they work to create items that improve consumers’ daily existence. In 1984, when Emma was a fresh college grad living and working in London, everything started. On a certain day, she started out in search of a present to honour her mother’s upcoming birthday. She looked everywhere for the perfect token of her affection but finally settled on a pair of ceramic teacups and a matching saucer. Please know that I am thinking of you right now. She entered a china store in search of a set that would bring back memories of her mother and her time spent together in North Oxford.
Unfortunately, the Great British High Street offered no options other than delicate and formal or powerful and somewhat unromantic. Emma’s thoughts went straight to the cabinet in her mom’s kitchen. She envisioned it among the assortment of mismatched china that made up the china store. If she was ever going to realise her dream, she would have to learn how to create porcelain by hand. She was eager to begin her search for it but was at a loss as to how or where to begin.
