F. Hinds commenced business in 1856 when George Henry Hinds opened the Harrow Road store in London Paddington. George’s son William started buying diamonds directly from producers around the beginning of the 20th century, while William’s son Frank bought loose diamonds before and after WWII to offer the best value by eliminating middlemen. Andrew Hinds, their diamond buyer and Frank’s grandson, uses this value-for-money buying method today, which is why all F .Hinds diamond prices are competitive. Frank entrusted diamond buying to his eldest son Eric in the late 1940s until his younger brother Roy took control in 1954. Roy researched diamonds and visited Antwerp’s main diamond market in January 1959 while Eric managed the property side of the firm. No other UK retailer visited the Antwerp diamond market as early as this, and he visited twice more that year. Roy visited three times a year for 20 years, with 60+ visits, until his youngest son Andrew took over in the 1990s.
