When Catherine Pavers, a young mother with an optimistic outlook, borrowed £200 from a bank to start her new enterprise in York, England, she had the objective of discovering the best appropriate shoe style for each individual’s foot. She achieved this goal in 1971. She had been a successful businesswoman in her own right prior to joining the company.
Our firm has grown from its humble beginnings as a result of her unrelenting attempts to locate fashionable and comfortable footwear for her children. Stuart (Managing Director) and Ian (Chairman and CEO) were recruited by Cathy to aid the family firm in growing and realising its ambition of being a pioneer in stylish yet comfortable footwear.
As one of the most trusted sellers of comfortable footwear in the United Kingdom, Pavers has established itself as a leader in the business. From our humble beginnings in Scarborough, we have quickly expanded to include stores in places such as York, Hull, and most recently Newcastle, amongst other destinations.
Aside from that, the retailer Pavers now has more than 130 outlets in the United Kingdom and Ireland, with a diverse selection of popular brands such as Fly Flot, Skechers, and Padders to name a few examples. Our company’s specialised buyers traverse the world in search of the highest-quality materials for our high-quality shoes, looking for the greatest discounts possible. In partnership with Bellissimo, our fashion-forward brand, we provide our customers the latest fashion trends and the most popular designs to their homes and offices.
Leather Touch Fastening Mary Janes
Mary Jane shoes, also known as bar shoes, are a classic footwear style among ladies. They are typically made with closed toes, flat soles, or low heels, depending on the style. A Mary Jane shoe is distinguished by the straps that cross the instep of the foot and are easily secured with touch-fastening points, buckles, or buttons. They add a sophisticated touch to casual outfits. The Mary Jane shoes, which are both practical and comfortable, provide a secure and adjustable fit thanks to the T-bar straps on the sides. Traditionally, Mary Jane shoes were made of black or patent leather, but their style has evolved to include sporty trainers and occasion heels.
Mary Janes are a versatile footwear option that can be worn for both formal and casual occasions. A pair of Mary Janes in black leather can be a great option to wear to work, whereas sporty Mary Jane trainers can be a great option for going for a walk or relaxing on the weekends with friends. There are so many different styles of Mary Jane shoes to choose from that you’d be forgiven for owning a few pairs. In fact, because they are such a wardrobe staple, we’d highly recommend it!

When the Brown Shoe Company of Missouri named their bar shoes after the mischievous cartoon character Buster Brown and his sweetheart Mary Jane in 1904, the term “Mary Janes” became widely known.
It was in the early 1900s that a Missouri shoe manufacturer, The Brown Shoe Company, began marketing Mary Janes, and the style quickly gained popularity. The shoes, which were named after a popular cartoon character, were originally intended for children, but they quickly became a favourite among women of all ages and backgrounds.
Classic Mary Janes for children are typically made of black leather or patent leather, have one thin strap that is fastened with a buckle or button, a broad and rounded toe box, low heels, and thin outsoles. They are also available in other colours.

The women’s T-strap sandal first gained popularity in the 1920s, as women began to show more of their legs and feet in their clothing and accessories. Featuring a pointed toe and a strap that extended from the centre of the toe to a horizontal strap that wrapped around the ankle, this style was popular in the 1990s.
To put it another way, the pants cannot be too long or too flared. Instead, they must be tailored and fitted in order to allow your ladies Mary Jane shoes to shine through. In part due to the absence of a heel, Forward is a casual slip-on that is ideal for wearing with more relaxed-fitting pants and for more casual occasions.
When a little girl named Mary Jane appeared in the comic, she was dressed in flat shoes with a small leather strip across the front. Since then, everyone from Mary Quant to Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Rei Kawakubo has taken advantage of the fashion trend to great success.
