We compare Avanti Travel Insurance’s single-trip, annual, medical and cruise routes so you can match the cover to the trip you are actually booking.
Travel insurance is easy to compare badly. A low-looking quote can be the wrong fit if you are taking several trips, declaring a medical condition or sailing on a cruise with rules that do not resemble a standard beach holiday.
Our comparison focuses on the choices Avanti Travel Insurance puts in front of UK customers. We look at what each route is designed to do, the benefit levels the brand lists, and where a typical alternative may make more sense. Prices are quote-led on the pages reviewed, so we do not invent a premium.

At a glance
- Single Trip is the focused choice for one journey, with Essentials, Classic and Deluxe benefit levels listed by Avanti.
- Annual Multi-Trip is aimed at people taking more than one trip in a policy year, with future booking cancellation cover stated by the brand.
- Medical Cover is the specialist route for pre-existing conditions, with Avanti saying it can screen more than 1,300 conditions.
- Cruise Cover is the clearest fit when cabin confinement, missed port departure and cruise-specific disruption matter.
- Avanti lists 20% off new policies with code SHINE20 until 30 September 2026, excluding medical-condition costs and add-ons.
Avanti’s range is easier to understand as four routes than as one universal policy. The Single Trip Travel Insurance page is the baseline. From there, frequency, health history and cruise arrangements decide whether another option earns its place. The wider Avanti travel insurance range provides the quote entry point.
Four routes, four different buying questions
The most useful comparison is not simply “which policy is cheapest?” It is “which risk is this policy being asked to handle?” A one-off traveller may value a clean, trip-specific quote. A frequent traveller may prefer one annual arrangement. Someone managing a condition needs accurate screening, while a cruise passenger needs to check benefits that land and air policies may not spell out clearly.
| Option | Best fit | Stated detail | Main question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single Trip | One specific journey | Essentials, Classic and Deluxe | How much cover do you need? |
| Annual Multi-Trip | Several trips in a year | Annual policy period | Will you travel often enough? |
| Medical Cover | Pre-existing conditions | Screening required | Have every condition and change been declared? |
| Cruise Cover | Cruise itineraries | Cruise-specific features | Are confinement and missed departure covered? |
This table is a starting map, not a substitute for policy wording and current terms. The pages describe different purposes, and the final quote can change with age, destination, dates, declared health and selected cover level. That makes a direct price comparison with a typical supermarket policy incomplete until those inputs are the same. Check the single-trip benefit levels alongside any alternative.

Where Single Trip and Annual Multi-Trip separate
The Single Trip route is the more contained decision. Avanti lists cover for one trip and says cover lengths of up to 550 days may be available depending on age and destination. Its page gives Essentials, Classic and Deluxe as the levels: cancellation rises from £1,000 to £7,500, while emergency medical cover rises from £5 million to unlimited. Baggage cover is listed from £1,000 to £3,000. The current quote path is where destination and dates are applied.
That tiering gives a shopper something concrete to weigh against a typical basic policy. The trade-off is excess: Avanti lists £150 for Essentials, £75 for Classic and nil for Deluxe on the single-trip table. Whether the higher level is sensible depends on the cost of the holiday and the amount you would have to absorb yourself.
The Annual Multi-Trip route changes the calculation. Avanti positions it for two or more trips and says it can protect future bookings from the day the policy is bought, with a start date delay of up to 90 days if plans are not fixed. The annual quote is therefore worth comparing when there are several holidays, not a single expensive trip where a single-trip limit may be more tailored.
- Choose Single Trip when there is one main journey and its destination, dates and cost deserve a tailored quote.
- Compare Annual Multi-Trip when several holidays are likely during the policy year.
- Check trip-duration and destination limits before assuming annual cover fits every plan.
- Compare cancellation limits, medical expenses, baggage and excess on matching cover levels.
The annual policy page gives the intended use case, but no universal annual price is published, so a saving cannot be assumed.

Medical needs change the shortlist
Pre-existing Medical Conditions Travel Insurance is less an add-on than a reason to compare the route first. Avanti says it covers more than 1,300 medical conditions subject to screening and that 97% of customers who declare a condition are offered cover. Those are brand-stated figures, not a promise that every applicant will receive the same terms.
The important practical point is disclosure. Avanti’s single-trip information says an undeclared condition, a health change before travel or travel against medical advice can affect a claim. The medical cover page is therefore the right place to start for a traveller managing heart, breathing, cancer, autoimmune or other long-term conditions. A typical general policy may still be suitable, but it should not be assumed without screening.
Our buying checklist is simple:
- List every relevant condition and medication accurately.
- Answer screening questions as they apply at the point of purchase.
- Review the validation certificate and policy documents.
- Update the insurer if your health or medication changes before departure.

Cruise Cover earns the specialist comparison
The Cruise Travel Insurance route is the strongest candidate when the holiday includes a ship rather than simply a flight to a resort. Avanti highlights cabin confinement, missed departure and cruise-specific assistance on its cruise page. Those details are worth comparing with a standard policy, where cruise cover may be absent, optional or described differently.
We would check the itinerary, embarkation point, ports and any excursions before requesting a quote. A cruise passenger should also compare medical and repatriation limits, because being at sea can make a claim more complicated than a normal hotel stay. The brand’s cruise page is a better starting point than assuming the single-trip route automatically includes every cruise feature.

Avanti’s current promotion is another comparison point, but it should stay in proportion. The site lists 20% off new policies with code SHINE20 until 30 September 2026. It excludes the cost of covering medical conditions and add-ons, and terms apply. That may reduce a quote, but it does not automatically make a thinner policy better value than a more suitable alternative. See the cruise option separately if you are sailing.
Best Avanti option by use case
- Best for one planned holiday: Single Trip, especially when you want to choose between Essentials, Classic and Deluxe for the value of one booking.
- Best for frequent travellers: Annual Multi-Trip, if several journeys and their cancellation dates fit the policy limits.
- Best for declared health conditions: Medical Cover, because screening and specialist support matter more than a generic headline price.
- Best for a cruise itinerary: Cruise Cover, where confinement and missed departure are central comparison points.
Our verdict
Avanti Travel Insurance wins by use case, not by one universal policy. Single Trip is the clearest all-round starting point for one journey, Annual Multi-Trip is more logical for repeated travel, Medical Cover is the specialist shortlist for declared conditions, and Cruise Cover is the most relevant route at sea.

The honest limitation is pricing: Avanti uses quote-led premiums, so we cannot call one route the cheapest without matching a traveller’s age, destination, dates, health details and cover level. Treat the listed benefits as a comparison framework, read the policy wording, and then see current Avanti Travel Insurance options for the trip in front of you.
