Audible is the site that you should use if you enjoy listening to audiobooks, podcasts, and other audio content in general. It is a service offered by Amazon that provides a relatively inexpensive subscription package along with a vast selection of different audible forms of entertainment.
If you are having trouble finding the time to read, if you think it would be interesting to hear celebrities read their own bios, or if you are searching for the most recent podcasts, then you will appreciate what Audible has to offer.
What is Audible?
Amazon’s Audible is an audiobook service that features the largest variety of audiobooks available anywhere in the world. These titles range from well-known classics to recently published works and even unique podcasts. With an Audible membership, users have the option to either download or stream the content of their choice.
It’s possible to listen to a book being read aloud by a narrator, the authors themselves, famous actors and actresses, or even by an audio cast. Many podcasts also have famous hosts. For instance, Michael Caine’s podcast Heist is about famous heists, and then there’s From the Oasthouse, which is Alan Partridge’s podcast and is, of course, read by the East Anglian superstar himself. There are a lot of podcasts, and many of them have famous hosts.
How does Audible work?
If you join up for Audible‘s regular membership, you will be able to download one new audiobook each month that you are a member of the service. You have the option of selecting from several different membership plans, and the one you select will determine the amount of “credits” (also known as “points”) that you receive each month to use toward purchasing audiobooks through the Audible service.
You are not restricted to reading only one book each month; in fact, many are offered at no cost and you have the option to purchase more copies. You are also able to listen to all of the Audible Original Podcasts with unlimited streaming, and there are also a number of exclusive offers and deals throughout the month, including the “Daily Deals,” which offer a different title for up to 80% off each day. In addition, you can listen to all of the Audible Original Podcasts with unlimited streaming.
What are Audible credits?
The monetary unit of exchange within the Audible service is called a “Audible credit,” and one credit can be used to purchase a single audiobook. However, different memberships come with varying credit allocations. For example, if you pay £7.99 per month for a subscription, you will receive one token per month. However, if you pay £14.99 per month for a subscription, you would receive two tokens.
The fantastic thing about Audible is that it utilises a rollover system. This means that if, for example, you have a month that is really chaotic and don’t have the opportunity to spend your monthly credit, you can use it the following month instead. However, keep in mind that unused credits will become invalid when a year has passed since they were last used.
What do you need to use Audible?
You may listen to Audible using your computer’s web browser, but it’s much more convenient to download the app, which works with virtually any smartphone or tablet computer. Since Amazon owns Audible as a subsidiary, you’ll need an Amazon account in order to use the service.
Using a mobile device, such as a smartphone, you can access the app’s search function and download features. When shopping for an audiobook on a desktop or laptop, simply log into your Amazon account as usual.
Choose “Audible Audiobooks” from the dropdown menu to the left of the main search bar.
When you do a standard book search and click on the result, you should get a box that gives you the choice of buying the Kindle Edition, the Paperback Edition, or the Audio Download version of the book.
Please include a price or the opportunity to pay with “1 credit” in the “Audio Download” section of the page. In this case, you can choose to either pay in full for the audiobook or use any remaining credits to purchase it. The mobile web version of the site also allows for this functionality.
How to get free books on Audible
In addition to a free 30-day trial membership, new Audible users will receive a free copy of any audiobook of their choosing when they sign up.
Join Amazon’s Audible service for free for 30 days; monthly fees of £7.99 thereafter (auto renews)
If you keep your Audible subscription active, you’ll be able to redeem your credits for new audiobooks whenever you’d want. Each token can be redeemed for a single audiobook at no additional cost, regardless of the book’s retail price.
You can contact Audible‘s customer support and ask to have your account “frozen” for a few months if you find that you are not using a credit every month. This way, you may use the credits you already have to catch up instead of having to pay extra, risking overage fees, or cancelling your membership altogether.
How to return a book on Audible
If you don’t like a book or realise you downloaded the wrong one by accident, you can send it back and get your money back.
You can see this information by logging into your Audible account and selecting “Account Details” from the drop-down menu next to your username. Select “Purchase History” to view a record of your audiobook purchases to date.
Simply click the “Return Order” option to the right of the book you wish to exchange.
How much is Audible?
The price of an Audible membership varies according to the plan that you choose to subscribe to. Plans start at £7.99 per month and go all the way up to £109.99 per year. You will receive one book credit per month if you pay the monthly fee of £7.99, but if you pay the highest yearly membership fee of £109.99, you will receive 24 book credits for the entire year.
You are able to get a free 30-day trial of the Audible service if you wish to evaluate it before making a purchase commitment.
How do you cancel an Audible membership?
At the conclusion of your current subscription period, your Audible membership will be automatically renewed. If you want to give it a try before committing, the trial time is included in this.
Access the “Account Details” section of the Audible website by logging in with your credentials. You should be able to cancel your membership under “Account Settings.” If you want to cancel your Audible subscription, click here and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Amazon purchases of audiobooks will always be accessible in your Audible collection, regardless of whether or not you maintain a subscription to Audible. All free trial purchases should be treated the same way.
However, if you terminate your membership before using all of your credits, those credits will be lost.
