Staysure Travel Insurance Compared: Which Cover Is Best for Your Trip?

We compare Staysure’s cover levels and policy formats by limits, flexibility and likely traveller fit, so the right option is easier to identify.

Travel insurance is rarely a simple price comparison. The useful question is what you are paying to protect: one holiday, several trips, a cruise, winter sports or a medical history that needs careful screening.

Staysure places those choices inside a fairly clear structure. There are three core cover levels, single-trip and annual formats, plus specialist options and add-ons. We have compared the published limits and features so you can see where the extra cover may matter.

At a glance

  • Basic starts with up to £4,000 cancellation, £300 baggage and £5m medical and repatriation expenses.
  • Comprehensive raises cancellation to £9,000, baggage to £2,500 and includes unlimited medical and repatriation expenses.
  • Signature offers up to £15,000 cancellation, £5,000 baggage and no excess.
  • Annual multi-trip cover suits repeat travellers, while medical cover is designed around declared pre-existing conditions and screening.
  • Winter sports, cruise, gadget, golf and travel disruption features may be optional or policy-dependent.

The three core cover levels

The central comparison is between Basic, Comprehensive and Signature travel insurance. Staysure lists all three as including emergency medical expenses, cancellation cover and lost luggage, but the limits and extras change materially. That makes the cheapest option less suitable when the holiday itself is expensive or your itinerary needs more than standard protection.

OptionCancellationBaggageBest fit
BasicUp to £4,000£300Lower-cost, simpler trips
ComprehensiveUp to £9,000£2,500Higher-value holidays
SignatureUp to £15,000£5,000Maximum core limits

Basic is the value-led starting point, but its £129 excess, £300 baggage limit and £5m medical and repatriation expenses leave less room for costly disruption. Comprehensive is the more balanced middle choice: Staysure lists a £99 excess, unlimited medical and repatriation expenses, £2m personal liability and optional gadget and winter sports cover.

Signature is the strongest published core package. It removes the excess, lifts baggage to £5,000 and cancellation to £15,000, and includes travel disruption extension and £2,000 gadget cover. It is also the clearest choice when a high-value booking would be difficult to replace.

The right cover level depends on the value and type of the trip.

The tradeoff is simple: a higher tier may provide more useful limits, but a quote is still required because Staysure prices cover around the traveller, destination, dates and medical screening. We would not treat a headline limit as a guarantee that every claim or activity is included.

That is also why comparing only the medical figure can mislead. Cancellation, baggage, excess and activity wording can affect the usefulness of a policy just as much as the headline medical limit. A traveller with a modest weekend booking may value a lower premium, while a family trip with prepaid excursions may need more cancellation headroom.

Compare Staysure cover levels

Single trip or annual multi-trip?

For one holiday, Staysure single-trip cover is the straightforward comparison. It can make sense when you travel once or when destinations, dates and activities vary too much for an annual policy to be efficient.

If you expect several trips in the policy year, annual multi-trip travel insurance is the more convenient format. Staysure currently advertises 12 months for the price of 10 on new annual policies with code 12FOR10, but the site says the discount applies to the base premium, excludes medical and add-on costs, and ends 30 September 2026. The terms matter more than the headline saving.

Annual cover is most relevant when more than one trip is planned.
  1. Count the trips you realistically expect to take.
  2. Check each destination and the maximum trip length allowed.
  3. Compare the annual premium with the cost of separate single-trip quotes.
  4. Confirm that cruise, winter sports and other planned activities are included or added.

Where Staysure may suit specialist needs

Staysure medical travel insurance is the most relevant route for travellers with pre-existing conditions. The brand says it covers over 1,300 conditions subject to screening and that 97% of customers are able to get medical cover. Those are useful indicators of positioning, not a promise that every condition will be accepted on identical terms.

Declaration is the key practical step. Tell Staysure about relevant health conditions when you request a quote and check the confirmation of cover. A medical condition that is not declared may not be covered. We also recommend reading the policy documents before paying, especially if you need cancellation cover linked to health, specialist treatment or repatriation.

This specialist positioning can be especially relevant for older travellers, but age alone does not identify the right policy. The destination, length of stay, planned activities and accepted medical screening outcome still matter. A strong comparison therefore starts with the full itinerary, then checks whether the chosen tier supports it, rather than assuming a specialist label removes every restriction.

Specialist cover still depends on the policy wording and screening outcome.

Cruise travellers can look at Staysure Cruise Plus, while skiers should compare the winter sports option. Staysure says winter sports is not included in standard cover, is available as an optional add-on on eligible single-trip policies, and is included on Comprehensive and Signature annual multi-trip policies. Equipment, ski passes, piste closure and avalanche limits still need checking.

Other optional features include gadget cover, golf cover, excess waiver and travel disruption. They can make a policy more appropriate for a particular itinerary, but they can also change the quote. A cheaper base premium is not necessarily cheaper once the features you actually need are added.

Our verdict

For most travellers comparing the three tiers, Comprehensive is the practical winner: it moves to unlimited medical and repatriation expenses, materially improves cancellation and baggage limits, and keeps some useful extras available. Choose Signature when no excess and the highest cancellation and baggage limits justify the quote. Choose Basic only when the trip value and needs genuinely fit its lower limits.

Annual multi-trip wins for repeat travellers, and the medical route is the better starting point for pre-existing conditions. The honest limitation is that no single winner exists without a quote: premium, acceptance, excesses, destination rules and exclusions can change the result. Always compare the final policy wording with your itinerary.
